Election Referee exists to focus attention on election controversies. The Rev. Wright controversy strikes me as a major issue. I will move on to other important election issues soon. This controversy likely will be a recurring theme on this website.

When I first heard about this issue I thought Obama was probably doomed in this election. But his speech was so good… I just know he can spin all this into something fine.
Yes, he opportunistically stayed in a controversial church… but he needs to keep his base and try to do what he can to bring them, and the rest of us, into the 21st century as a united nation.
This is *exactly* why I voted for him. It was a tremendously difficult decision for me. But I knew the country is going to face some awful times… and we will need inspiration, focus, and understanding above all.
Either dem candidate would be fine… but Obama has that edge of being able to clearly communicate his comprehensive understanding and vision about difficult issues. It’s a gift we have to recognize and appreciate… even if he may have some less attractive friends, don’t we all?

I think that either one can and will eventually win over McCain. The country is just too sick of the war and the bad economy to believe all the right-wing hype and lies anymore (I hope). Both Obama and Clinton have drawbacks, but they are both light-years above the devastation to our country that we have endured for the last 7 years (that McCain would continue and reinforce). When all is said and done… Obama has the advantage of being an excellent communicator and that inspires the confidence that Americans want to believe in about ourselves.
